Servus - Search and Rescue Dog

Shiloh, Illinois
October 2003

Within an hour of arriving at Ground Zero, Servus fell down a 15-foot hole, inhaling ash, debris, and asbestos, and crushing a vertebra in his neck when he landed. He stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated onsite. Three motorcycle police escorted him to a midtown animal hospital , where a team of five to seven doctors revived him. Servus returned to work, only to fall and require onsite resuscitation again.

On April 5, 2003, Servus died as a result of the injuries he sustained at Ground Zero. He was ten years old.
